Lodge payments
Stripe set-up, step by step.
All 23 steps, from agreeing who does what to the first payout. Each one links to the Stripe page it comes from.
Stage 1 · At the lodge
Before you start
- 1
Agree who does what
- Decide the representative and the directors. See who does what.
- Tell the directors their details go to Stripe.

- 2
Gather the details

- 3
Check Stripe's restricted list
- Fraternal organisations aren't named on it.
- Fundraising by non-profits and charities, and charity raffles, are restricted. Stripe may ask for more about those.
Our note: Subscriptions and dining aren't named there. Planning to collect charity money through Stripe? Ask Stripe first.
Stripe: Restricted businesses · Account checklist
Stage 2 · In Lodge Dashboard
Start the set-up
- 4
Press Set up Stripe
- Go to Settings › Payments and press Set up Stripe. Admin or Secretary only.
- This creates the lodge's account and connects it in one go. Don't sign up at stripe.com first. How creating and connecting works.
- Stripe's own form opens. It's built for the lodge's country, type and payment methods, so your screens may differ from this guide.
- Genuine Stripe pages use the stripe.com domain and HTTPS.

Stage 3 · On Stripe's form
Fill in Stripe's form
- 5
Sign in or create a login
- The form opens on your Lodge Dashboard email.
- Use a password you use nowhere else.
- Already on Stripe elsewhere? Stripe can offer to reuse those details. Only accept what belongs to the lodge.
Stripe: Set up your account · Networked onboarding
- 6
Confirm the lodge's type
- United Kingdom is already set and can't be changed.
- Non-profit and unincorporated are already filled in. Stripe asks you to confirm them and you can edit them.
- 7
Enter the lodge's details
- Legal name, address and phone number.
- The name must match your documents exactly.
Asked for a tax ID or company number?
Enter the lodge's tax reference if it has one. Without one, Stripe can consider another ID on your documents, such as a charity number. If there is no other ID, Stripe says to enter zeros. It may then ask for a document.
Stripe: Unincorporated bodies and charities · Required information for this account type
- 8
Say what the lodge does
- Industry: Stripe generally uses this to set the account's category.
- A short description of what the lodge does, and a support phone number.
- The full address of its website or social media profile, not just a handle. It must open without a password.
- That page must show the lodge's name and what it offers, matching what you tell Stripe.
- By the time you take payments it must also give contact details and a refund and dispute policy.
No website or social media page?
Stripe's onboarding guide lets a business with no web address give its description instead. If the form won't accept that, contact Stripe support.
Our note: A Lodge Dashboard address only counts if the lodge has a public page there showing all this. A sign-in page won't do.

Verify yourself
- Enter your legal name, date of birth, home address, phone, email and role.
- Photograph your government-issued photo ID, then take selfies. Stripe compares them.
- Direct Debit and bank transfers need this check.
Stripe: How identity checks work · Bacs Direct Debit · Required information for this account type
- 10
Add the directors
- Enter each person's name, date of birth, address, email and role.
- Confirm the list is complete.
- If Stripe can't match them, it asks for a document or signed form.
Stripe: UK director checks · UK relationship documents
- 11
Add the bank account
- The lodge's sort code and account number.
- Stripe says wrong bank details are a common cause of payout delays, so check them.
- You can choose a payout schedule now or later.
Stripe: Payouts · Account checklist
- 12
Decide on the Direct Debit name
- By default, Direct Debits carry Stripe's branding, not the lodge's name.
A lodge name on Direct Debits costs £50 per active month
Stripe calls this Custom Branding. It shows the lodge's name on bank statements, Stripe Checkout and emails, typically takes 10 business days and only applies to new Direct Debits. If the form asks for a display name, leave it out or enter Stripe to keep the default.

- 13
Review, accept and submit
- Check everything, including what was filled in for you.
- You accept the Stripe Services Agreement for the lodge.
- You return to Settings › Payments.

Stage 4 · Stripe reviews
Stripe's checks
- 14
See what Stripe needs
- In most cases approval is nearly instantaneous.
- The Stripe card in Lodge Dashboard shows where you are and lists anything needed.
- In the Stripe Dashboard a red banner shows anything pending. Stripe may also email saying action is required.
Stripe: Account approval · Verification status
- 15
Upload anything it asks for
- Upload in the Stripe Dashboard: Settings › Business › Account status. Never by email.
- Allow 3 to 5 business days for review.
- Rejected? Read the reason in the Dashboard, fix it and upload again. Still stuck? Contact Stripe support.

Stage 5 · In the Stripe Dashboard
Stripe's account checklist
- 16
Turn on two-step authentication
- Do this in your user settings.
- Stripe recommends a passkey or security key, with SMS only as a last resort.
Stripe: Account checklist · Set up your account
- 17
Check what members will see
- Business name, website, support details and statement descriptor appear on statements or receipts.
- The descriptor must be 5 to 22 Latin characters with at least one letter, without < > \ ' " or *.
- Make it recognisable. A payment a member can't recognise may get disputed.
Stripe: Statement descriptors · Set up your account
- 18
Turn on notifications
- Use Communication preferences. Stripe suggests at least successful charges and disputes.
- You can add SMS for critical account health updates. Each team member sets their own.
Stripe: Account checklist
- 19
Check bank details and payout schedule
- Confirm the bank details before taking live payments.
- Daily payouts are the default and what Stripe recommends. You can change this.
Stripe: Account checklist · Payouts
- 20
Give others access
- Settings › Team › Add member, choose a role, Send invites. Invites expire after 10 days.
- Give the lowest role that does the job.
- Everyone has their own login with two-step authentication. Never share yours.
Our note: Worth inviting the Treasurer here, so payouts and disputes aren't left to one person.

Stage 6 · In Lodge Dashboard
Take payments
- 21
Choose how members pay
- When the card says Ready, an Admin or Secretary switches methods on for festive boards, subscriptions in one go and monthly subscriptions.
- Stripe's UK prices: Pay by Bank 0.5% + 20p, max £5. Bank transfer 0.5%, max £5. Direct Debit 1%, min 20p, max £4. Cards 1.5% + 20p to 3.15% + 20p.
- Monthly subscriptions can only use Direct Debit or a card.
- The lodge pays Stripe's fee, so members pay the advertised price.
Stripe: UK pricing · Bank payment pricing
- 22
Take the first payment
- Pay by Bank: the member picks their bank and approves in its app or website. £0.50 to £10,000.
- Bank transfer: the member sends money to a virtual account number Stripe gives them.
- Direct Debit: 4 business days to confirm, up to 7 with a new Direct Debit.
Our note: Try a small real payment yourself first and check how it looks on your statement.
Stripe: Pay by Bank · Bank transfers · Bacs Direct Debit
- 23
Receive the first payout
- Typically 7 to 14 days after the first live payment.
- After that, money is available after 3 business days and paid on your schedule. Your bank may take longer.
- Track payouts in the Stripe Dashboard, and each payment in Finance on Lodge Dashboard.
Stripe: Payouts
Everything here comes from Stripe's documentation, read on 3 November 2026, except where it says Our note or describes Lodge Dashboard itself. Stripe makes the final decision and can ask for more.
